Veteran Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, 37, is set to leave the club this season.
“Yoris is expected to leave Tottenham as a free agent next January,” British soccer outlet 90MIN reported on Feb. 22, citing a report from The Telegraph.
The Frenchman is a club living legend, having played for Tottenham since 2012. Until last season, he led the team as captain. He was known for his “charismatic leadership” and shouting throughout games.
However, things got weird last summer. With Yoris approaching his 40s, Tottenham were looking to replace their starting goalkeeper. Yoris had received offers from the Saudi Arabian league and wanted to move on.
Tottenham quickly reorganized their squad. Tottenham’s new manager, Anze Postecoglou, named Son Heung-min the new captain, while James Maddison and Christian Romero were named vice-captains.
The changes have paid off. Tottenham are doing well. They have four wins, one draw, and 13 points this season, good for second place in the league. They’ve been in contention for the title since the beginning of the season.레고토토
Then things went wrong for Yossi. His move to Saudi Arabia fell through. There were even rumors of a return to his hometown club Nice (France), but it didn’t happen.
Yoris was on Spurs’ 25-man roster for the first half of the season. However, he has been relegated to the third option in goal. The Spurs signed Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario last summer and have been using him as a starter. Another veteran, Fraser Forster, is the backup keeper.
In effect, Yoris is spending his time at Tottenham for nothing.
However, he will definitely leave the team in the January transfer window next year. If the Spurs let him go as a free agent, he won’t have to pay a transfer fee, making it easier for him to find a new team. It seems like a final courtesy from the Spurs for Yoris.
Of course, the Spurs have something to gain as well. If Yoris leaves as a free agent, they won’t receive a transfer fee. However, they could save £100,000 (approximately $163 million) on his weekly wages.
Currently, Yoris is being linked to AS Roma (Italy), where Jose Mourinho is the manager.
