Professional soccer K League 2 Chungbuk Cheongju FC earned three valuable points against Seongnam FC.
Chungbuk Cheongju won 1-0 against Seongnam in the 33rd round of the Hana OneQ K League 2 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Tancheon Sports Complex.
After a fierce back-and-forth battle, Chungbuk Cheongju took the lead in the 18th minute when Yang Ji-hoon scored the first goal.
Seongnam then struggled to find an equalizer. They recorded 15 shots (9 on target) and held a high 64% possession, but were unable to find the back of the net.
The loss puts a red flag on Seongnam’s plans for a mid-table finish.
On the other hand, Chungbuk Cheongju, who picked up a point away from home, will be looking at promotion. The result leaves them with 12 wins, 10 draws, and 8 losses, giving them 46 points. They are level on points with fifth-place Gyeongnam, who have played one game less.
If Gyeongnam, which hosts Bucheon FC 1995 on April 24, fails to accumulate points, Chungbuk Cheongju will have a chance to leap to fifth place, which would qualify them for the promotion playoffs in the next round.
This season, the winner of the K League 2 will be promoted automatically, while the runner-up will play a relegation playoff against the 11th-place team from the K League 1. Third through fifth place will play a promotion playoff, with the winner facing the 10th-place team in the K League 1 in a final playoff to determine promotion and relegation.
