FA 169 Save Farewell → The 20-year-old national team will be promoted at once, but “Please let me be the coach!” Confidence flared up

The free agent closer, who has 169 career saves, has moved on to the Samsung Lions. And there’s a bullpen pitcher looking to follow in his footsteps: Park Young-hyun, 20, the “Hold King. He expressed strong confidence in his manager and did not hide his desire for the closer’s job.

Park Young-hyun received the Skill Development Award at the ‘2023 Joa Pharmaceutical Baseball Awards’ held at the Elena Hotel in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on Thursday.굿모닝토토 주소

Park, who graduated from Bucheon Bukcho, Bucheonjung, and Yushin High School, joined the KT Wiz in 2022 as the first pick. The signing bonus was 300 million won. After appearing in 52 games in 2022 with no wins, one loss, two holds, and a 3.66 ERA, Park broke out in 2023.

In 68 relief appearances in 2023, he posted a 3-3 record, four saves, 32 holds, and a 2.75 ERA, totaling 63 hits (three home runs), 23 walks, 79 strikeouts, and 25 runs (23 earned) in 75⅓ innings. He was also nominated for the 2023 Golden Glove. Without Park’s performance, there would have been no rebound this season for KT, which was at the bottom of the standings at one point.

He also served his country at the national level. At the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Young-hyun wore the Korean flag for the first time in his career and helped Korea win the gold medal with a powerful pitch reminiscent of Oh Seung-hwan.

After receiving the award, Park said, “First of all, I am honored to receive such a big award. I will do well next year so that I can win this award,” he said, adding, “There were a lot of things I was disappointed with last year. This year, I feel like I’ve grown as I’ve been scolded and praised by coach (Lee Kang-chul). I feel confident.”

Kim Jae-yoon, a pitcher with 169 career saves, who served as KT’s closer until the 2023 season, recently left the team after signing a free agent contract with the Samsung Lions. With an immediate need to fill the void of a closer, Young-hyun Park is considered a prime candidate.

“I don’t think it’s time, but rather an opportunity,” Park said, expressing confidence. “There are some regrets (with Kim Jae-yoon’s departure), but I think I have the biggest opportunity. I think I need to show the director well,” he said. Park Young-hyun then added, “Just ask the director. I will do my best,” he said cheerfully.

Next year will be his third year as a professional. The expectations of KT Wiz fans are already rising to see if Young-hyun will be able to lock the back door of KT Wiz next season.
