Ace of the Korean national team, “AG Japanese Industrial League? If you know how to be treated…” Confidence and humility

Moon Dong-joo (20-Hanwha), the “national team ace” who has been the best rookie in the KBO this season, talks about what it’s like to play baseball in Japan.

Moon joined the Hanwha Eagles in the first round of the 2022 rookie draft after graduating from Gwangju Hwajeongcho, Muhyungbu, and Jinbo High School. His signing bonus was 500 million won.

In the 2022 season, Moon went 1-3 with a 2.65 ERA. He broke out this season. In 23 starts, he went 8-8 with a 3.72 ERA. In 118⅔ innings, he allowed 113 hits (six home runs), 42 walks, 95 strikeouts, 52 runs (49 earned), a WHIP of 1.31 and a batting average of .249.헤라카지노

In the end, he won the once-in-a-lifetime Rookie of the Year award. It was the first time in 17 years that a Hanwha Eagles player had won the award, following Ryu Hyun-jin in 2006.

More importantly, Moon has been a national ace on the international stage, inspiring confidence. At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, he started the final against Chinese Taipei and pitched six innings of four-hit ball, striking out seven and allowing no runs to win the gold medal for his country.

Moon also competed in the 2023 Asian Professional Baseball Championship (APBC), where he continued to spread his wings. On Nov. 16, he pitched 5⅔ innings (102 pitches) with five hits, four walks, five strikeouts and two runs against Australia in the first qualifying game at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

Japan has always competed in the Asian Games with a team of unemployed baseball players, but Moon has never looked down on their skills. “I didn’t think it was social baseball. If you see how they are treated, you will never think of it as social baseball,” he says firmly. In the end, South Korea won a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Japan in the Super Round of the Hangzhou Asian Games.

“Coming into the APBC, Japan was at a much higher level, and that motivated us even more,” Moon reflects. “We won the Asian Games, but we realized that there were many players who were much better at baseball, and I don’t think we should think that we had the upper hand because each country didn’t come out at their best. We still have a lot to work on,” he said humbly.

Still, Moon exuded the confidence of a Korean ace. “That doesn’t mean we can’t do it,” he said. We have good memories from the Asian Games, so with that confidence, we want to show that we can do it,” he said.
