Korean baseball, which seeks to recover its reputation, will be tested once again in November next year.
The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced on its official website on the 20th (Korea time) the schedule of the 3rd Premier 12 tournament with the participating countries. Organized by WBSC, the tournament will feature 12 countries, ranging from the 1st to 12th in men’s baseball world rankings.헤라카지노
According to the world ranking announced the previous day (19th), Japan ranked first, Mexico ranked second, the U.S. ranked third, Korea ranked fourth, Taiwan ranked fifth, Venezuela ranked seventh, the Netherlands ranked eighth, Cuba ranked ninth, the Dominican Republic ranked 10th, Panama ranked 11th, and Puerto Rico ranked 12th. Australia has earned the right to participate in the Premier 12 for two consecutive times, and Panama is the first to participate in the Premier 12.
Of the previous two competitions, only Korea and Japan have ranked within the top three. Korea was honored with its first title at its first competition in 2015, and was runner-up in 2019. Japan ranked third in 2015 and won in 2019. The U.S. (2nd in 2015) and Mexico (3rd in 2019) also made it to the podium once each.
The 3rd Premier 12th competition will be held from Nov. 10 to 24, 2024. Six teams will play the group stage in two groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the super round. The first and second teams in the super round will compete for the final, and the third and fourth teams will compete for the bronze medal.
Group A will run from Nov. 10-14 in the United States, and Group B will run from Nov. 14-18 in Taiwan. The opening round will be held at Nagoya Dome in Japan on Nov. 13. The Super Round will be held at Tokyo Dome in Japan from Nov. 21-23, with the final and bronze medal match taking place on Nov. 24.
WBSC President Ricardo Prakari said, “Congratulations on the world’s top 12 teams advancing to the Premier 12,” adding, “We have played two memorable tournaments representing WBSC, and we look forward to seeing the best international baseball competitions that will captivate fans around the world next year.”
This is a golden opportunity for Korea to elevate the status of baseball, which has been greatly reduced. Korea has suffered humiliation in international competitions in recent years since finishing runner-up at the 2019 Premier 12. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Korea came back empty-handed without a medal, and at the World Baseball Classic held in March this year, it had to accept the shocking result of premature elimination in the first round.
Since then, Korean baseball, which has declared a generational change, has won the gold medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, which ended in October, providing an opportunity for a rebound. In the Asian Professional Baseball Championship (APBC) held in November, he unfortunately ranked second, but he saw hope for a generational change.
If Korea performs well in the Premier 12, it can expect Korea to rise to the world ranking. Korea, which once ranked second in August 2021 and then dropped to fifth after the WBC in March this year, ended this year’s world ranking with 4,353 points. The Premier 12 is organized by WBSC, and the winning team gets 1,380 points. More points are at stake than the 1,150 points that are given to the winner of the WBC. Expectations are already high on whether Korea will be able to successfully change generations and hunt down two birds with one stone at the upcoming Premier 12.
