NC won 4-2 against the Hanwha Eagles in the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on the 8th.

This brings NC to its second consecutive win. It is its fourth consecutive win. It is the first time in 17 days that NC has won consecutive games since the game against Kiwoom in Gocheok on April 21-22. NC has 30 wins, 1 draw and 32 losses in this season, and has secured the sixth place.

The player who contributed the most to NC’s victory was Shin Min-hyuk, the starting pitcher. In both of the previous two games, he was substituted early after less than four innings. He left the mound early after allowing six runs in two innings against KIA in Changwon on May 28 and two runs in three ⅓ against Lotte in Busan on May 2.

However, it was different on the day. He pitched aggressively, making 60 of 85 pitches a strike. Naturally, he saved the number of pitches. He pitched quality start plus, allowing four hits, two strikeouts and two runs in seven innings.

After the game, Shin Min-hyuk said, “It was effective that I pitched with my body,” adding, “I think I went well according to (Kim) Hyung-joon’s ball arrangement and got good results. I threw it comfortably.”

Shin said, “I tried to throw fastball more precisely because I was going a lot towards my body, and (the opponent batter) was trying to hit fast. I tried to throw it lower and it had a good result.”

He must have felt a lot of pressure because he took the mound after two slumps. “I wanted to make an end to it, but fortunately, I had a good result,” Shin said with a sigh of relief. “I was hit by a lot of breaking balls then. Today, I mixed my fastballs properly, and threw at that timing. I made a lot of mistakes, and it was good. I threw with confidence.”

Up until the third inning, it was a complete game pace. Shin also thought of it. However, the result was not good. He replied, “I knew it. As soon as I thought about it, I was hit by a home run. I didn’t think about it after that.”

Shin Min-hyuk was also concerned about the starting matchup with Moon. “Dong-ju told me to go easy on the previous day. I was lucky to win,” he said. “It’s been a while since I didn’t win, so I really wanted to win. That’s why I was more concerned.”

Although he feels pressured about starting the first round in the Korean league, he tries to consistently throw the ball. Shin replied, “The team has such expectations on me, and I have high expectations as well. For now, I think it is also a plus for the team to keep turning around without missing the rotation.”

Shin was strong in fall baseball, too. He allowed no runs in five ⅔ in the SSG and semi-playoff games last year, and pitched in two games against KT with a 1.69 ERA in 10 ⅔. Unfortunately, however, NC`s journey to the Korean Series failed.

He has strong desire to throw well again in the postseason. “I want to win the Korean Series this year. I’m a little bit down now, but if I go up again, I’ll do better so that I can think about autumn baseball,” Shin said.
