Kwak Bin, “May Domination,” is overwhelming just to select MVP candidates…”Thank you for this. I want to post my name every month”

Doosan Bears ace Kwak Bin’s May 2024 season was dazzling. He started five games and pitched 30 ⅓, displaying an extraordinary performance with four wins and no loss in ERA of 1.48.

In terms of the overall league, Kwak displayed remarkable pitching performance in May. He showed off powerful pitching by garnering multiple wins per month, ranking first in ERA, eighth in strikeouts, and eighth in most innings.고수익알바

Kwak Bin played an average of six innings per game in May, with a batting average of 0.189 and a WHIP per inning of 1.02. He pitched four quality starts (more than six innings, less than three runs) and one quality start+ (more than seven innings, less than three runs) to match the title of ace in all aspects.

Kwak Bin was naturally named as the final candidate for the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League monthly MVP announced by KBO on the 4th, along with team senior pitcher Hong Gun-hee.

The LG Twins produced pitchers Kim Jin-sung and Lim Chan-kyu and outfielder Moon Sung-joo as candidates, while KIA Tigers ace James Nail, main shortstop Park Chan-ho, Lotte Giants outfielder Yoon Dong-hee and Kiwoom Heroes foreign hitter Ronnie Dawson will compete for the MVP in May for the trophy.

After finishing training ahead of the match against the KIA Tigers in Jamsil on the 8th, Kwak Bin said, “There are so many players who did well in May, and I am very grateful that I am a candidate,” adding, “I will continue to try harder to become a player who can be nominated as a monthly MVP.”

Kwak made his first career full-time start in the 2022 season, which was his fifth year since joining the professional league in 2018. With eight wins and nine losses and a 3.78 ERA in 147 ⅔ innings in 27 games, he has established himself as a Korean right-handed pitcher who is drawing attention in the entire league.

In the 2023 season, Doosan has taken it to the next level. He played a decisive role in Doosan’s advance to the postseason by recording 12 wins and seven losses with a 2.90 ERA in 23 games and 127 ⅓ innings.

Kwak started the 2024 season with high expectations but had a bad start. He started in seven games through April, failing to meet expectations with 40 innings, one win and four losses, and an ERA of 4.50. Although he made four quality starts, Kwak made it difficult for the players themselves, fans, and the coaching staff to be satisfied with his report cards.

Fortunately, Kwak made a splendid comeback from May. Despite the unfavorable factors from ace Raul Alcantara’s injury, Doosan had 16 wins, eight losses and two draws in May as Korean pitchers including Kwak Bin cheered up. As the Doosan Bears ranked first in monthly win percentage, it rose to the top of the league.

Kwak Bin continued the good flow of May with five hits, one home run, one walk, five strikeouts and two runs in six innings against the NC Dinos on the 5th. Although he did not become a winning pitcher, he has won four games in the season so far, and the green light has also been turned on for the second consecutive year of double-digit wins since last year.

When the game did not go as planned right after the opening of the 2024 season, Kwak was able to gather his heart amid encouragement from the coaching staff and seniors. He sweated a lot, feeling a great sense of responsibility, and returned to the image that everyone had expected.

“We had a hard time in the early days of the season, but (pitcher) coaches and older brothers cheered us up until the end,” Kwak said. “That strength led to good results in May. In particular, the fielders scored points first in every game, so I was able to throw with ease all the time. I thank them.”

Meanwhile, the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League monthly MVP is selected monthly by KBO and Shinhan Bank, the KBO League title sponsor. The final winner is determined by adding up the fan vote and the Korea Baseball Reporters’ Association’s press corps vote.

The MVP fan vote for the 2024 season was held through Shinhan Bank’s mobile application “Shinhan SOL Bank” from 10 a.m. on the 4th to 23:59 a.m. on the 9th.
